Definition:

Tradition

Noun
An activity or practice that has been taught from one generation to another.

History & Etymology:

The word tradition start its existence as the Latin verb tradere meaning to “handover, or deliver”. The noun form of this word was tradition (trāditōn), and as Latin morphed into Old French it became tradition, Middle French tradicion, and finally in English as tradition.

Interestingly as I was researching tradition I discovered that the latin word tradition also made it’s way in French as trahison, where English gets the word treason. This is because the word meant to “give up, or handover,” and the beginning of the word was similar to the French trair, which means to “betray.”
